24 November 2008

Maybe I can get a little overly excited about this time of year...maybe.
But there is a reason and that reason would be..totally unexplainable at this time.
I guess I'm love with the possibilities of what this season can be.
Hopeful of the potential.
Thanksgiving is coming up soon, later this week actually and I'm so excited to see friends that I haven't in awhile.
Friends are friends no matter where they are, but proximity makes it all the more enjoyable.
But before we get started on the whole wide-eyed wonderment of the season I need to get past these 2 1/2 days of school.
.......nevermind, what's the point?
Its not going to happen.

Thankfulness.
It entails that there is something to be thankful for.
I think it also implies that there is a certain someone that we're thanking when we give thanks.
It can be to our self, a friend, parent, or a frenemy.
Always be thankful for something.
That way it gets us thinking about what and why. Right?

17 November 2008

Today I woke up to the annoying rumble of my phone alarm.
Rumble?
Well, I forgot to take it off vibrate throughout the night and I realized that it was on vibrate when at 7 in the morning something on my table started to shake around uncontrollably. Man it was so annoying.
For someone that thinks alarms are the most annoying thing....this was unbearable.
Anyways.

Was there ever a time where you knew that, right after you did it, you did the right thing and all that came out of it was bad?
Sometimes things are totally out of our hands and uncontrollable by us, the self-proclaimed demi-gods that we are.
I think once people, including myself, realize that somethings are just out of our hands the quicker we'll get to the things that are controllable.
I tend not worry about things. A lot of times that has gotten me in trouble. I've been accused of indifference or apathy, but whatever. I guess its bad when I don't care about things that matter, but most of the time I care...I promise...I think.

10 November 2008

As 2008 winds down and people start coming back home I am reminded of the one time of year that really matters. CHRISTMAS!!!
Okay, let's not get ahead of ourselves, but really its almost here and I'm pretty dang excited.
So, the weekend.
The weekend was pretty uneventful except for this movie that I watched. The movie was pretty good and I enjoyed it because of how everything comes together at the end...Don't we all love movies that come together at the end? I mean, what movie that doesn't provide a conclusion at the end in the form of "coming together" have you enjoyed? Okay, the movie was a bit gruesome for me, but that added to the zest and the overall movie-watching experience.

I feel as though a lot of the times we, as Christians, tend to overlook certain things because there are more pressing issues, or so we think. For instance, there are people that would debate feverishly about abortion and homosexuality without regards to those that are going through the struggles. There needs to be a hatred of sin, but there must be a compassion not unlike Jesus gave. How can I be so caught up with arguing the issues when there are people grieving over the effects of these issues. I don't think that we are representing Christ in a way that He is pleased when we go about life in this way. We cannot preach from our pulpit "Love man, hate sin," when we turn it around and our lives prove that we only do the opposite, "love sin, hate man." Even our indifference about our fellow man and their struggles is hatred. Living for myself and for my friends is not different from the lifestyle of a non-Christian. When it comes down it how different are we? If I were observing myself and someone that didn't believe in Jesus I don't think I would see differences in actions. The only difference I would see is that I'm a hypocrite where the non-Christian wouldn't be.

07 November 2008

This is my update for the week.
I know I said in a previous post that I would update every Monday, but I was tired and I'm sorry my faithful. (I think I can count all the readers with one hand.)
Since the last time I wrote Barack Obama was elected to the POTUS (President of the United States)
Monumental, Historic, any other adjectives that describe this.
I think we need to pray for him as we do all leaders before we start criticizing him or praising him.
In the end we all know who our real leader is.
So, before we start calling this man messiah let's look to our real Messiah.

Now, unto an issue that has been burning me for a good couple of years.
Actually, more than a couple of years.
Abortion and homosexuality.
First off as a Christian I'm going to say that I try to look at the world with the Bible as my leading authority. It doesn't always happen, but on these two issues that is what I will do.
Abortion is the killing of an unborn child. There I said it.
You can fight me all you want, but that's what it is.
It stops a beating heart. It is a dependent beating heart, but it is still beating and thriving.
If you don't believe that the baby is a fetus and has nothing to do with human life there is nothing really that I can say to argue with you.
I think I'm finished with that.
Homosexuality according to the Bible is a sin.
Now, I think its very popular in different circles nowadays to be more welcoming and accepting of people, but sin is never and can never be acceptable.
The thing is, homosexuality is not just a sin in the law, or in the old Bible "stories", or in the prophecies, or in the Gospels, or in the epistles, but its a sin throughout the whole Bible. How can you argue the fact that 1 if you confess to be a Christian and 2 if you believe that the Bible is the inerrant Word of God that homosexuality is not a sin.
People will call me a basher or a hater or whatever nasty words that they can think of.
The way I see it is I'm just following a command.
Not to hate people, but to hate sin.
