27 October 2008

So it is about that time again where I post.
I think I'll make it a weekly event.
Every Monday will be my post day.
Let's see how long this lasts.
I missed class on Friday because I was feeling under the weather. I guess I shouldn't have missed it, but it was a no-brainer for me. One reason was because I was feeling sick, so sick in fact that I threw up and looked miserable for everyone to see, but another fact is that because I was sick I think i also needed a rest from school.
Now, if I wasn't sick I would have gone to class, but because I was and because I was feeling this way I did not go to class.
It might be easier to understand if you were me.

Now, unto an entirely different arena.
The upcoming elections.
These are my personal views and I don't expect anyone to agree with me on anything.
I do however expect a respectful outlook on what I have to say.
First off, I am not voting in these elections, nor have I voted in any of the previous elections, namely, the 2004 elections. Why you ask? I am rather interested in the political process and I do follow the issues and the candidates, but I'd rather not vote then vote for someone that I agree with in part and disagree on other parts. Some people will be up in arms saying, "How could you be so stupid in forgoing your rights in this election. Some people would die for this right." To that I respond, "yes, it is a right to vote, but I would be doing a disservice to this country and to myself by not voting with conviction." I think that with this years election voting for someone as a vote against someone else is not the highest ideal that people fight so hard to protect.
I've been doing some research on what the two candidates stand for and am I very impressed by their websites, but how can I be sure that what they say now and what they do in office is the same. That is another thing on which I cannot get around about American politics. You cannot take either/any candidates on their word because they will go back on it. There isn't one president in the history of presidency of the US that didn't go back on their word. Everyone thinks that if elected McCain will do so, but I believe Obama will do the same. There is a certain rhetoric that both parties use to get elected and then when elected follow the plan until their approval rating is through the roof and then when people think they can do no wrong then they go ahead and do something crazy/unexpected.
If either is elected there should not be president bashing from either side.
I think that Christians get too involved with that and follow the ways of the world in that they view it as normal and get carried away. Christians, we are judged on a higher set of values than the world. We are the elect. Please do not let yourself be, in this way, influenced by the world. People will want to say that I am wrong and that is there opinion, but here are two verses that we, brothers and sisters, should consider.
1 Peter 2: 13-17 "Submit yourselves for the Lord's sake to every authority instituted among men: whether to the king, as the supreme authority, or to governors, who are sent by Him to punish those who do wrong and to commend those who do right. For it is God's will that by doing good you should silence the ignorant talk of foolish men. Live as free men, but do not use your freedom as a cover-up for evil; live as servants to God. Show respect to everyone: Love the brotherhood of believers, fear God, honor the king.
1 Timothy 2:1-2 "I urge, then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone— for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness."
Maybe if we lived this way all the time and not just during elections we would be a better people, but one can only hope and pray.

22 October 2008

Today started out strange.
I woke up at 7, hit the snooze button 3 times, and then took a shower.
When I got out of the shower it was already 7:45.
Why is that weird?
Well, my alarm first went off at 7:00 and the snooze button lasts 5 mins.
So, by the time I'm in the shower it is about 7:15 and i don't take 30 min showers in the morning.
Where did the time go?
I really don't know.
Or maybe I did take a 30 min shower.
...no way, that's not conceivable.
I guess the time just went down the drain.....
...of course, no pun intended.

Today is Wednesday.
School is being apathetic towards me.
The feelings mutual I guess.

One thing that I don't understand and probably will never understand is why people debate so feverishly about the possibilities of how God did this or how God did that or why do you believe this or why do you believe that. Yes, those issues are of somewhat importance, but if we were to get down to the centrality of importance there would be only one issue.
That is the importance of Jesus Christ in our life.
That's it. Period.
I'm not saying that people should not be interested in how God created the Earth or what the flood really means or if the Law is still important to us. I'm just stating that if we were to go back to the root of the issue. The root of all issues. Actually, the root of life, then we will see that all of the other issues are just periphery.
Yes, there is some value to gaining knowledge of the theological debates that are surfacing everywhere around us.
The importance can range from winning someone over to Christ (what does that really mean) by debating issue after issue or maybe strengthening your own faith by really grasping the magnitude of God or the fact that God is a personal God or any other ways that one's faith can be strengthened, but again I would like to stress this point, at what cost?
What is the point of all these things if we lose sight of the Gospel and how it shines through the darkness of our post-absolute truth society.
That is a whole other issue that I would like to get to.
What did Nietzsche say about God?
"God is dead. God remains dead. And we have killed Him..."
How can someone kill God?
Well, we all know that a person cannot kill God.
What this is stating is that we(society) have killed God in our actions, lives, what we perceive as the Good and the Truth.
And we if read the Bible for all its worth we find that without God we are evil.
"All have sinned and fallen short..."
"The heart of man is evil.."
Over and over in the bible we see that there is Truth and our inability to get to it....
Without Christ.

HeyMan.

I'm waiting for class to start....at 12.
I'm sitting at the study center on a computer.
Writing in this thing and not studying.
When, at that point, I realize that it is Friday.
I have two days in front of me that are going to be a good time of rest.
Hopefully, that is.

I'm waiting, just waiting.
Biding my time until I can get out of this place.
I might sound crazy.
I might be crazy. (hopefully)
Waiting it out...waiting it out...waiting it out....

So, The Dodgers lost.
Dem Bums did it again.
I don't know if I'm qualified to call them that and I don't know if people refer to the Dodgers in that manner if they are not referring to the Brooklyn Dodgers.
Which reminds me.
People have often wondered and pondered over why the LA Dodgers are referred to as the Dodgers.
Well, it just so happens that the name The Dodgers actually goes back to the early 1900's when Brooklyn had a trolley system.
The full name for the Dodgers back in that time was named The Brooklyn Trolley-Dodgers.
More commonly known as the Brooklyn Dodgers, or rather affectionately referred to as "Dem Bums."
Not unlike the Red Sox's, the Dodgers just had a knack for losing either by having a bad year, or just by losing when it matters most. More often than not they were losing to one of the two other New York teams: the Yankees or the Hated Ones(Giants).
When the Dodgers would lose fans would exclaim as they were feeling the anguish of losing, "Dem Bums did it again!!!"
At first it was used to be derogatory, but as time passed and the years went on it stuck as a nickname, kind of like the Cubs nickname: "Lovable Losers."
I don't know if I would ever want that name for a nickname, but I'm definitely sure that that I would not want "Dem Bums" as my nickname.

I could really go on and on about sports, but I won't.
I touch more live than sports fans so, I must move on.
Moving on.........
